The usually compact downtown area of San Francisco has three contradictory square miles which is crowded into the north eastern corner of the peninsula, between the bay and the hills. This neighborhood is located on the north side of diagonal Market Street, which is the city’s main high class stores, commercial artery and fancy hotels.  The Transamerica Pyramid is the tallest building from where one can glimpse the downtown expanse.
