A neighborhood, South San Francisco occupies the basin and the portions of the sides of the broad valley which was formed by the San Bruno Mountains on the north and the Coast Range on the west. The population as per the 2000 census was 60,552 people. This neighborhood has mild winters and dry cool summers. Since World War II, the population tripled. From 1920, having 4,411, it increased to 61,824 in 2006.
