Arroyo Burro Beach: Pet Paradise
At first glance, Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara, California might appear more like a dog park than a beach. Located at 2981 Cliff Drive, Arroyo Burro is known amongst locals as the ideal spot to bring your pup to frolic through the waves and burrow in the sand. There are plenty of other pets to create a fun play date for your dog while you enjoy the riches this Santa Barbara beach has to offer. Arroyo Burro has a calm surf perfect for easy swimming or a quick dip and safe for dogs to paddle in.
The beach is located adjacent to the Douglas Family Reserves, which offer excellent hiking trails you and your dog can tackle together. If all the activity gets too vigorous for you or your pup, there are outdoor showers for both people and dogs to cool down and clean off. Afterward, you can head over to the full-service restaurant that overlooks the beach.
If you are visiting and hear this area referred to as “Hendry’s Beach,” don’t be mislead; Hendry’s Beach is a title the locals dubbed Arroyo Burro. It honors the area’s history, referring to the local farmland that was owned by the Hendry family in the early 20th century. In fact, the nickname is so common that some locals might not even recognize this beach as being named Arroyo Burro.
