Refugio Beach in Santa Barbara, California is a unique combination of the recreational splendor of a state park and the relaxation and beauty of a beach. Located about 20 miles west of Santa Barbara at 10 Refugio Beach Road, Refugio Beach is worth the trip outside of the city; plus, the distance gives the beach a feeling of seclusion and escapism.

This beach offers 1.5 miles of sand and surf for endless fun in the sun.  The water conditions lend themselves perfectly to swimming, snorkeling and diving. Just a few steps past the sand await a variety of other recreational activities at the grassy park area.  Picnic tables and grills line the lawn, welcoming visitors for celebrations or just a quick snack break before diving back in or hitting the towels.

Bring your bike along for a smooth ride down the beach or along one of the paths that wind throughout the campground.  If you prefer using your feet instead of wheels, the area provides stunning scenery for a hike or leisurely walk. Banana palms and canary palms line the edge of the beach, mimicking a scene from a postcard. The backdrop and comfortable weather make this a coveted camping ground—so popular that reservations must be made seven months in advance of the date. The combination certainly makes the experience worth the effort. For reservation information, call (805) 968-1033.
