Steele is a census designated place situated in Imperial County in California.  It is a part of the El Cento, California Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is one of the oldest established communities in Imperial County, dating back to 20th century. It was originally called as Silsbee. It is situated 7.5 miles west of El Centro and is bordered on the west by the New River.

The population of Seeley was 1,624 people as per the 2000 census. 2009 estimates show the population to be 1,644 people.

As per United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.2 square kilometers, of which, 3.1 square kilometers is land and 0.1 square kilometers is water. It lies entirely below the sea level.
