The Tuolumne County Museum and History Centre is one of the significant landmarks in Sonora. This museum is one of the historical buildings, which is included in the list of National Register of Historic Places. It was constructed in the year 1857 as Tuolumne County Jail. In the year 1978, the renovation work resulted in the renewal of the Jail, and the establishment of the Museum Annex, and the transformation of the exercise field of the prisoners into an area for social events and refurbishment of the garden.
