Ukiah is the largest metropolis of Mendocino County, California. Since the city is easily approachable, it functions as a city center for Lake county and Mendocino county. In 1996, the city was ranked as the 6th best location to occupy in America and the best small city to inhabit in California. Ukiah experience a moderate Mediterranean climate. Every year the city receives an average rainfall of 94 cm. The city was discovered in 1856 when it was a division of the Sonoma County. Ukiah is famous for its wine production and is today a home to most of the major wine labels of the country, including Fife, Fetzer, Frey, Parducci and Bonterra. The city is a chief manufacturer of pears and is also a home to the breweries Ukiah Brewing Company and Mendocino Brewing Company. Limber and grapes are the other major products of Ukiah. The rich bottomland of the city supports many organic farms that bear vegetables and fruits and also supports cattle and sheep.
