Gibson Amphitheater was formerly known as Universal Amphitheater. This theater is situated in Universal City in California. Originally built in 1972 as an outdoor venue, this theater was remodeled and converted into an indoor theater in 1982. It has seating capacity of 6,189 for concerts, and is the third largest theater in California. This theater is best known for its acoustics and its sightlines, and is known as the best of any theaters in North America. Gibson Amphitheater is known by this name from its inception until early 2005, when the naming rights were acquired by the Gibson Guitar Corporation.
