Cocoa Beach exists because of its proximity to the heart of the US Space Program. The NASA John F. Kennedy Space Centre is located just 15 miles away (quite close even for a day trip from the city), and Cocoa Beach is a popular spot in the region to watch a shuttle shoot off into space.
Orlando attractions like Disney World, Sea World, and Universal-MGM Studios are all easily accessible from Cocoa Beach. The Brevard County Zoo, just out of the city, makes for a laid back and relaxing day trip.
There are plenty of boat tours of the Banana River Lagoon, kayaking being a popular option for the more adventurous traveller. Fishing and wild-life spotting are also equally enjoyable. Enjoy the view from Cocoa Beach Pier, which stretches nearly 244 m into the Atlantic Ocean.
Visit Porcher House, an elegant example of a Florida mansion, which is now a historical site, and the Cocoa Village Playhouse which hosts special events, restaurants and shops.
