The municipality of Avon is one of the famous towns in Eagle County, Colorado. It is situated at the foothills of Beaver Creek Ski Resort and is nine miles west from Vail. This small town occupies an area of 8 square miles and has an elevation of 7431 feet. According to the census reports of 2007, the population of Avon is 6561. The racial makeup of Avon is 57%25 of White Non-Hispanic, 40%25 of Hispanic, 1%25 of American Indians and the rest includes races of Black. Avon is mentioned as the “commercial core” of the Eagle River Valley. Since Avon is placed in and near mountains, the climate of the town is often cold and cloudy. The average temperature of Avon ranges from 1 degree Fahrenheit to 45 degree Fahrenheit and the average annual snowfall is as high as 8 inches. There are four major bus routes in Avon that connects to Leadville, Mintrum, Gypsum, Dotsero, Vail and Eagle. The two major highways in Avon are Interstate 70 and US 6. However there are no airports in Avon and tourists depend on the Eagle County Airport to reach there.
