Dolores River Canyon is to the south west of Colorado. It is to the north of Dove Creek town. This dramatic canyon composes of red Wingate Sandstone. It sits on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management and has been proposed for wilderness designation under the provisions of the 1964 Wilderness Act. The 105 mile stretch of the Dolores River has surrounding wilderness area of 26,000 and is popular for many outdoor activities.
