Hovenweep National Monument protects around six prehistoric Puebloan era villages which are spread over a 21 mile expanse of mesa tops and canyons that are along the Utah-Colorado border. There are multi storied towers which are perched on canyon rims which are balanced on boulders. Throughout the tour to this historic site, the visitors are awed with the skill and the motivation of the builders. Further, Hovenweep is popular for its solitude and for undeveloped natural character. Most of the structures here were built from AD 1230 to 1275. The growth rings on a wooden beam show that the log was cut in AD 1277.
