As per US Census Bureau, area of Craig on the whole is 12.6 sq. Km (all land).
Having discovered by ‘William H Tucker’; and named after one amongst the financial bankers of the town, i.e. Rev. William Bayard Craig in the year 1889, this place got incorporated in the form of a city on 24th of April, 1908. The status of ‘county seat’ was obtained when creation of ‘Moffat County’ took place out of Routt County’s western portion on 27th of February, 1911. In region same as that of Craig, at confluence of Yampa river and Fortification Creek, existed previous towns called Yampa (1885) and Windsor (1878).
Craig’s population as per 2000 census was 9189. Per capita income was $18140. Around 8.6%25 of total population was found to be below poverty line.
