Camp Hale situated at Eagle Park in the west Central Colorado was started in 1942. The idea behind this was to provide mountain warfare and winter for the Second World War soldiers. The camp trained soldiers in rock Climbing, skiing and cold weather survival skills. The Camp is divided in two: the Cantonment Area, where the soldiers lived and worked and the Fork Valley of the Eagle River - known as the Eagle Park.
