Bethel is located in the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, USA. It is the main port of the Kuskokwim River and is nearly 540 km west of Anchorage.
The city is served by the Bethel Airport. An extensive snow machine trails network connects Bethel to the other villages in the Delta. Bethel also serves as a regional hub for 56 native villages that surround the city.
Average summer temperatures can range anywhere between 9°C–17°C, while winter temperatures plunge as low as –11°C. Annual precipitation is around 16 inches, while the city gets around 50 inches of snowfall in a year.
Bethel is home to more than 6,000 people. Alaska Natives (especially the Yup’ik Eskimos) form around 60% of the total population. Commercial fishing is a major source of income for Bethel’s residents.
