Bridgeport: Attractions and more...
The Park City gets its name from the beautiful public parks that dominate the landscape, including the large Beardsley Park in the north and the eventful Seaside Park that is situated near the harbour entrance. The latter houses many statues including a Soldiers’ and Sailor’s Monument and one of legendary showman PT Barnum.
The Barnum Museum, Discovery Museum and Planetarium and the Housatonic Museum of Art give you an insight into life in the city and in the region. Captain’s Cove Seaport is a well-known local attraction (try exploring the Nantucket Lightship which is a floating heritage lighthouse).
Visit the Beardsley Zoo with its indoor rain exhibit and the Downtown Cabaret Theatre with its popular Broadway shows and musicals which is open between October–May.
Bridgeport is also said to be the birthplace of the Frisbee as it was home to the Frisbie Pie Company.
