In Hartford city the most beautiful park is known as the Elizabeth Park whose owner was Charles M. Pond and Mr. Pond. The first planting grew from 100 bushes to the two and a half acre garden of some 15,000 bushes that is the center piece of Elizabeth Park and is known throughout the world.Bushnell Park is located below the state capitol and legislative office complex. This park consists of rolling lawn, sculpture, fountains and a historic carousel. It is the first park in the country purchased by a municipality for public use. The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, a Civil War Memorial which frames the northern entrance to the park, is the first triumphal arch in the United States.
