The foremost attraction of Hartford is the Wadswoth Athenaeum Museum of Art. Established in 1842, it is the first public museum of USA. The museum houses an excellent collection of American paintings from the nineteenth century.
Hartford is home to the oldest public park, the Bushnell Park. Constituting forty acres of land, it includes antique carousel, children’s playground, sculptures and the Civil War Arch.
The famous author Mark Twain was once a resident of Hartford. His house, the Mark Twain House, is now a popular tourist attraction of Hartford. It also has a Museum, recently built, which provides an interesting insight into the life of the author. The house of the author ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’, Harriet Beecher Stowe, is another must see attraction in Hartford.
The Hartford International Jazz Festival held every October, is a weekend extravaganza full of jazz music and good food. October is also the month of the Hartford Marathonb.
