Tourist Guide New Britain
New Britain is a city which is situated in Hartford County in Connecticut. It is located around 9 miles to the southwest of Hartford. As per the 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of this city was 71,254. The official nickname of this city is the “Hardware City”, due to its history as a manufacturing center and also as the headquarters of Stanley Works.
Due to its large Polish population, this city used to be referred to as “New Britski”. New Britain was settled in 1687 and was incorporated as a parish under the name of New Britain Society in 1754. This city was chartered in 1850 as a township and as a city in 1871. This city got separated from the nearby town of Berlin in Connecticut.
The terrain of this city is made up of soft rolling hills and of young Connecticut forest. There are also many parks which are spread with trees and brushy woods too.
As per the 2000 census, there was an estimate of 71,538 people, out of which 28,558 were households and 16,934 were families residing in the city.
