Southbury, which is located in the east of Brookfield and north of Oxford, is a town situated in western New Haven County, Connecticut, United States. The population of the city, according to the census of 2000, was 18,567. The city comprises of historic districts, suburban neighborhoods and the rural country areas. Southbury is situated a short distance from the commercial and major business centers. As of the United States Census Bureau, Southbury has a total area of 40.0 square miles of which 39.1square miles is land and 0.9 square miles is water. According to the 2000 census, there were 4,833 families, 7,225 households and 18,567 people residing in the town. The population density of Southbury was 475.4 inhabitants per square mile. The racial makeup of Southbury was 97.34% White, 0.08% Native American, 0.45% African American, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.15% Asian, 0.62% from two or more races and 0.35% from other races.
