The residents of Delaware are referred to as ‘Delawareans’. This small and vibrant American state is often said to resemble a miniature version of the USA. The cultures of the German, Italian, Puerto Rican, African and Greek communities can be reflected in the various festivals and celebrations that take place in the larger cities throughout the year.

Delaware is home to the Delaware Memorial Bridge the longest twin span suspension bridge in the world  at the end of which lies the state of Maryland. The Barratt’s Chapel in Kent County is a Heritage Landmark. Rediscover Delaware at the First State Heritage Park in Dover which has many heritage attractions, historic churches and museums. The Wilmington and Western Railroad is an old steam train that features a ride through the beautiful Red Clay Valley.

Every year, the Big August Quarterly is held in Wilmington. This religious festival began in 1814 and is the oldest such event in the USA. Other exciting celebrations include the ever-popular Oktoberfest and the week-long Italian Festival. The Punkin Chunkin is a unique festival in Sussex County which features a competition where specially-grown pumpkins are shot from various devices to see which reaches the farthest.
