Durham, also known as ‘Bull City’ and ‘City of Medicine’, is a bustling metropolis in North Carolina, United States. A population of around 250,000 inhabitants makes it the fourth largest city in the state. Located between the Great Smoky Mountains and the beautiful beaches, it receives around five million visitors annually.
The region experiences four distinct seasons which come with moderate temperatures. Summers and winters are mild, occasionally showing their extreme side; considerable rainfall is also experienced here. July is the hottest month with January being the coldest.
Founded in 1853, Durham was a major railroad depot which grew rapidly after the Civil War owing to tobacco production. Its multi-faceted economy includes pharmaceuticals, computers, telecommunications and electronics.
