Avon Park can be referred to as a city located in ‘Highlands County, Florida, US’. It enjoys the pride of being the most ancient city within Highlands County.
The name ‘Avon’ has been derived from ‘Stratford-upon-Avon’, England.
As per US Census Bureau, Avon Park’s total area consists of 14.6 sq. Km; 2.6 sq. Km of which is water.
Oliver Martin Crosby was the 1st person to settle down on the permanent basis in Avon Park. He was a native of Connecticut; who went on to move to this area in the year 1884 for studying wildlife of Everglades. By the year 1886, loads of people had already followed the suit. This led to the formation of ‘Town of Lake Forest’. One of the English women who had settled over here went on to convince Crosby that this region was redolent to her home located in ‘Stratford-upon-Avon’. Crosby lent an ear to this persuasion on her part and, on her suggestion, changed name of this settlement to something called ‘Avon Park’.
The population as per 2006 census was 8879.
