Tourist Guide Captiva Island
Captiva Island, as the name suggests, can be described as an island located in ‘Lee County’, Southwest Florida, US.
Captiva Island lies just offshore within Gulf of Mexico. Like Sanibel (its neighbor), Captiva acts as barrier island with respect to ‘Pine Island’. It’s, however, much ‘narrower’. Sanibel Causeway is the sole automobile access by which Captiva Island can be reached.
In the year 1888, Captiva Island had been homesteaded. As such, a petite cemetery, adjacent to Chapel by ‘Sea’ contains grave of original resident, i.e. William Herbert Binder (of Austrian origin).
As per local folklore, ‘Captiva’ obtained its nomenclature due to the fact that Jose Gaspar, i.e. a pirate captain held female prisoners of his on island to acquire ransom/worse.
Captiva Island receives rainfall of around 48 inches every year. Snowfall does not occur. July proves to be the hottest month; with temperature of around 90 degree F; whereas January proves to be the coolest one; with temperature of around 57 degree F.
Population recorded according to 2000 census was 379.
