The University of Miami is a private, non-sectarian university in the city of Coral Gables. It encompasses 12 schools and colleges offering undergraduate and graduate programs in over 180 fields of studies. It was established in 1925 during the Florida’s real estate boom in the Gables. Since then the UM has been a major research university and sees over 15,000 students from around the world annually. Being a lively and varied academic community, the UM focuses on teaching and learning and encouraging new knowledge and service towards South Florida and abroad. Also, UM’s sports teams are nicknamed the Hurricanes and they compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
