When you think ancient history, Daytona Beach, Florida might not be the first city that comes to mind; in fact, it probably won’t be the second or third, either. However, the Halifax Historical Museum is a hidden historical gem among all the Daytona Beach sand.
The museum displays the history of the greater Daytona area dating back as far as 5,000 BC. Exhibits include displays of Native American, Spanish and British colonial and pioneer eras, as well as more modern-history exhibits like beach auto racing, World War II and Vintage toys. The museum would also appeal to local researchers, offering a facility with historical city directories, documents, maps, and photo collections.
The museum provides its concentrated dose of local history at a very reasonable price of $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. The Halifax Historical Museum is housed in the former Merchant's Bank Building, located in the heart of the downtown historical district of Daytona Beach on South Beach Street. The over-100-year-old building is a destination in itself and home to what could be one of Daytona’s best kept secrets.
