A little to the southwest of John U. Lloyd Beach State Park is a 3-mile stretch of estuary and uplands that sports nearly 50,000 feet of waterfront access. West Lake Park is one of the last remaining undeveloped stretches of along the Atlantic coast between Miami Beach and West Palm Beach.
The park's large expanse of mangrove is a hugely important part of the ecosystem, and the north-side entrance has free guided pontoon-boat tours of the Intracoastal Waterway. If you want to learn about nature without actually having to enter it, the Anne Kolb Nature Center and 250-seat amphitheater entertain and instruct without making you get wet.
The south side of the park is a sportsman's dream. Play tennis, basketball, volleyball or racquetball, or just kick back on the fishing platform for a more low-impact workout.
