This name is a portmanteau derived from the location of the town between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon.
Its population as per the 2000 census estimates show as 2,944 people. In 2009, it reached to 2,945 people.
This town is on the barrier island which separates the Indian River Lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean. As per the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.2 square kilometers, 2.7 square kilometer is land and 0.5 square kilometer is water.
