The founding minister, Dr. Marion Melvin, was empowered by St. John Presbytery, to come to Florida and establish a Presbyterian Church. Started in 1949, it had a conference meeting of five men in the front street tourist center and this was followed by weekly notices carried in the Melbourne Times. In 1950, the church got established and named as Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
