Islamorada is an incorporated settlement in the County of Monroe in Florida, USA. Islamorada is known as ‘Village of Islands’. It lies on the Lower Matecumbe Key, Windley Key, Tea Table Key, Plantation Key and Upper Matecumbe Key islands in the Florida Keys. Until 1997, Islamorada was simply an island in the Upper Matecumbe Key. But on November 1997, the village of Islamorada was incorporated.
The meaning of the name ‘Islamorada’ is ‘Purple Island’. The name was given by the Spanish explorers who lived earlier in this area. According to the census in 2007, Islamorada has a population of 6386. Islamorada is situated at 24°56′9′N 80°36′49′W. The village extends to an area of about 18.8 sq Km. 1.93%25 of the total area is water. Remaining 18.4 sq Km is land.
Islamorada is situated north of Key West and south of Miami. These are just two hours away from Islamorada. The time zone is Eastern, UTC-5. During the summer, it varies.
