Because of the relatively small size of Key West, tourists can find many ways of getting around the island.  Taxis are widely available on the island but can be quite expensive.  Some tourists like to rent scooters, or mopeds, but those also fall on the more expensive side.

Many Key West visitors recommend either bringing folding bikes along for the trip, or renting bikes locally.  Renting a bike is a cheap, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to travel the island, as the distances tourists need to cover are often relatively small.  Public transportation is also available in the form of island-wide bus and shuttle routes.

For those wishing to combine transport with sightseeing, Key West offers Old Town Trolley Tours.  The orange and green trolleys are easily recognizable on the roads of Key West, and can be boarded at 12 different locations through the island, all of which contain major tourist attractions.  Many tourists recommend paying the flat fee for the full tour on the first day upon visiting Key West, thus getting a good idea of the different attractions on the island and which ones you’d prefer to spend time on later in the trip.
