Miami International Airport is situated about 13km NW from the central business district of Miami.
It is a leading gateway between the US and Latin America and amongst the largest access-points into South America, due to its proximity to many of the tourist attractions.
It is spread over 3,300 acres of land and contains four runways.
The terminal building of the airport is semicircular in shape and has 8 pier shaped concourses named from A to J (B is demolished), in a counter-clockwise direction.
At present, the first four concourses are being merged into a single concourse which will be called the “North Terminal”, H & J will be merged into the “South” and E and G will be merged into the “Central”.
Several gates, ticket counters, parking areas, two garages and one helipad are located at strategic points throughout these concourses.
Tickets and departure counters are situated on the upper level of the facility while the lower level has baggage carousels.
It serves as a main hub for passenger airlines like American Eagle, Executive Air and American Airlines, Cargo airlines like Fine air, Federal Express and Arrow Air. It also handles flights to a number of cities throughout Europe, America and Israel.
