New Port Richey city is situated in Pasco County in Florida. Along with its neighboring city Port Richey, this city was named for Captain Aaron Richey who came from Missouri and who established Port Richey in 1880s. This city was later on founded in 1915 and was incorporated in 1924. It was formerly, known as Hickory Hammock.

The population of the city was 26,033 in 2000 census. As of 2009, the population of the city is 17,385 people. And compared to 2000 census, it has had a growth in population of 6.72 percent.

As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.9 square kilometers, of which 11.7 square kilometers is land and 0.2 square kilometers is water.
