With a total population of around 60 , 000 inhabitants , Palm Harbor offers a relaxed and serene atmosphere much like that of a small town, without being detached. Palm Harbor was initially called Sutherland , short for Southern Land and Development Company which was changed to Palm Harbor in 1925 . It had a humble beginning with farming as the main activity but went on to become one of the most affluent communities in the Tampa Bay area .
Palm Harbor is blessed with a near-perfect climate . The warm winds coming from the Caribbean raise the humidity levels. Winters are moderate , not chilly. Hurricanes are a rare occurrence in this area
