The park is located in the southwest corner of Mullet Key at the entrance of Tampa Bay. It covers the Whole Island of Fort Desoto. The park has a beach which offers fishing, camping, boating and some natural trails.
It has a four 12-inch seacoast mortar and two 6-inches Armstrong rapid fire rifled guns and they are mounted at the fort and they are the only remaining guns of that era in USA.
