Tourists can start by visiting the Sanibel and Captiva Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. Established in 1945, the JN (Ding) Darling National Wildlife Refuge is a haven for nature lovers and is ideal for bird-watching. The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation is also worth a visit.
History lovers will not be disappointed at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, featuring shells and molluscs; it is the only one of its kind in America. The Sanibel Historical Village and Museum is also of note.

Shoppers can indulge at Periwinkle Way, which is lined with shops, boutiques, galleries and cafes. Some of the popular hotels are Sundial Beach and Tennis Resort, West Wind Inn, Beachview Cottages and Tahiti Villas.
