Tourists can start by visiting the Sanibel and Captiva Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. Established in 1945, the JN (Ding) Darling National Wildlife Refuge is a haven for nature lovers and is ideal for bird-watching. The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation is also worth a visit.
History lovers will not be disappointed at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, featuring shells and molluscs; it is the only one of its kind in America. The Sanibel Historical Village and Museum is also of note.
