Myakka River State Park is considered as one of the largest and the oldest state parks in Florida. The river flows through fifty seven square miles of wetlands, woodlands and prairies. This park is popular for fishing, hiking, wildlife observation and camping. Located seven miles to the east of Sarasota in Sarasota County, the park is named after the Myakka River.  It is 37,000 acres long and was delineated in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Established in 1934, it was a gift of the family of Bertha Palmer. This beautiful park is noted for its wildlife and some of the rare birds in Florida.
