Begin your sightseeing tour of Sarasota with a trip to the beaches. One of the most famous in the state is the Siesta Key Beach, with its sparkling crystal-quartz sand (said to be the whitest and cleanest in the world). Relax in the romantic coves of Turtle Beach, or watch the award-wining Ski-A-Rees perform on the waters at the Ken Thompson Park.
Attractions include the State Museum of Art, also called the Ringling Museum, the shell-shaped Van Wezel, which is a performing arts hall painted in a rich shade of purple, and the 3-km-wide Tamiami Trail highway, which is of natural and archaeological significance to the state.
Step into the realm of the 30-acre Historic Spanish Point in Osprey, go through the exhibits and learn more on the 5,000 years of Spanish influence in south-west Florida. Culture buffs will also enjoy Sarasota’s 30 art galleries and 10 Theatres. The Sarasota Opera is at its best in February and March.
