Fort Matanzas was created in the year 1924. It’s constructed out of coquina, i.e. the most commonly found shellstone building material within this region. The length is 15 meters on every side; that too, with tower of 9.1 meters. Marshy terrain had been stabilized by foundation of ‘pine pilings’. In the year 1742, the construction of Fort Matanzas was almost complete; when British approached inlet with twelve ships.
