Built with coquina, an almost indestructible limestone made up of broken sea shells and coral, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument cannot be missed. Nearby, Fort Matanzas is equally powerful and worth visiting.
History lovers should visit the Lightner Museum which houses exhibits including shrunken heads and mummies as well as stained glass and crystal items.

With 43 miles of beach, several golf courses and marinas, Saint Augustine offers several sports as well as water sports activities. For an organised tour of the entire area, visit Flagler College.
