The John Gilmore Riley Museum is a historic home in Tallahassee. The museum is a place of African American History and Culture. It has received the highest award IMLS (Institute of Museums and Library Services) twice.
It is nestled amongst beautiful shaded trees. The museum consists of 14,000 documents including editorials, sermons, speeches, letters, and essays which are written by Black Americans involved in the movement to end slavery in the United States.
The major highlight is the animatronic figure of John Riley, and it is a great place to take the kids. It offers interesting and ever-changing exhibits.
John Gilmore Riley Museum starts at 10.00 am to 4.00 pm from Monday to Friday.
The main components of the museum are instructional program focusing on genealogical studies and architectural surveys, and multicultural outreach program that includes walking tours, special exhibits and cultural events.
