Tarpon Springs can be referred to as a city located in ‘Pinellas County, Florida, US’. It is notable to have the greatest percentage of ‘Greek-Americans’ of any of the cities in US. As per US Census Bureau, the area on the whole is 43.7 sq. Km; out of which 20 sq. Km consists of water.
The climate is pleasant. Summers are hot, but not all that scorchy. So, they would be the best time to pay a visit to this place. As such, Tarpon Springs is famous as a city of historic importance. Loads of historical sites which have been listed in ‘National register of Historic Places’ would be found over here. This place is also known for ‘sponge industry’.
The population as per 2004 census was 22554. The year 1947 marked the bloom of red algae; which had wiped out sponge fields in Gulf of Mexico. Due to this, majority of divers and sponge boats switched over to shrimping and fishing to earn a livelihood.
