During the early centuries of 300 CE, Treasure Island was occupied in small communities by the Timucuan people. The island got its name when many property owners tried to increase sales of their properties on the island by burying it and rediscovering the wooden chests. They claimed that the chests were full of treasure. The news spread quickly and people started to call this island ‘Treasure Island’.According to the 2004 census, the city had a population of 7521. The city is located at (27.768854, -82.768225). The total area of the city is around 13.8 sq. Km. 70.11%25 of the area is covered by water. The city has an elevation of 3 feet. The city’s racial status is dominated by Whites. Almost 98%25 of the people are White. The city’s per capita income is around $34965.
