Winter Haven, a community of about 34,000 people, is popularly known as the Chain of Lakes City due to its 45 fresh water lakes, 14 of which are connected by a system of navigable canals known as The Chain of Lakes including Lake Haines, Lake Rochelle, Lake Conine, Lake Smart, Lake Fannie, Lake Hamilton, Lake Hartridge, Lake Idylwild, Lake Jessie, Lake Cannon, Lake Mirror, Lake Howard, Lake May and Lake Shipp among others. The Chain of Lakes is widely popular for fishing activities and the Chain of Lakes Festival.
