The Double Barreled Cannon belongs to the American Civil War era. Although it was constructed for warfare, this cannon was not used in battle. Currently, it is a modern landmark in Athens, Georgia. It is displayed on the front lawn of the City Hall of Athens. It points northward as a symbolic gesture of defiance against the north. This cannon was designed by John Gilleland in 1862.
