Iron Horse

Rating:

The Iron Horse is located about 18 miles towards the south of Athens in a Greene County field on Georgia Highway 15. It has been open to the public since December 1959. The weight of this iron sculpture is 2 tons. This 12 feet high horse had been sculpted from metal by Abbott Pattison (University of Georgia artist in residence) in 1954. When this sculpture was placed in front of Reed Hall, several disappointed students placed a mattress under it and set it on fire.
