Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site was established on the 10th October 1980 in the Sweet Auburn region of Atlanta.

In 1977 it was chosen as a National Historic Landmark. The site, which is administered by the National park service, encompasses the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr., the church and his grave.

The National Park Service’s Visitors’ centre has a museum which houses the civil rights movement display. The tour to the birth place of the Mr. King in Auburn Avenue is limited to fifteen people at a time.

The Ebenezer Baptist church is a Gothic style church located within this historic site. Mr. King’s funeral was held here and the church is open to the public.
