Calhoun lies on the banks of Oostanaula River. It stands at an approximate distance of 110 Km on the northern side of Atlanta; and 80 Km on the southern side of Chattanooga, TN; along ‘US Interstate 75’.

The name ‘Calhoun’ has been given to honor US Senator John C. Calhoun; after his passing away in the year 1850. It was known by the name ‘Dawsoncille’ before that.
