Canton city is located in Cherokee County came into existence in the year 1832 and it was incorporated a as a city under the name of Etowah in 1833 and then changed to Canton in the month of December of 1834. The city was named after a city in China.
The former governor of the Georgia Joseph Mackenzie Brown was born in this place and during his stay his changed the economic scenario of this place with enforcement of Prohibition, reduction of the Railroad Commission and lower taxes.
Canton hosts various festivals and events that include celebrations on Forth July, Christmas, A taste of Cherokee in May and the River fest that takes place in the last weekend of September.
The city reflects a diversified culture due to a blend of races majority of being White, African American and Asian.
The climate of this place is pleasant and can be visited at any time of the year.
The population of this place comes to 7,709 according to 2000 census.
