Columbus is a consolidated city in Georgia and the county seat of Muscogee County. It is the principal city of Columbus, Georgia metropolitan area. Founded in 1828, this city was named after Christopher Columbus.

In 2008, it has a population of 188,660 people. Columbus is known to be the third largest city and also the fourth largest metro area in the state. It is the 120th largest city in United States. By 2009, it had a population of 180,622 people.

Columbus gets 49 inches of rainfall and its number of days with measurable precipitation is 92 days. There are 212 sunny days each year in this city. The month of July is warm with 93 degrees and January month is cold with 43 degrees. 

As per the US Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 221.0 square miles, of which, 216.3 square miles is land and the remaining 4.7 square miles is water. Columbus is considered as one of the Georgia’s three Fall Line Cities, along with Macon and Augusta.
